WITH blue skies above and perfect conditions underfoot athletes Thomas Murphy of Larkin Community College and Kylemore College’s Chloe Finn O’Brien were awarded the ‘Athlete of the Meet’ at the recent CDETB SCC Track and Field Championships held at Morton Stadium, Santry.
Both athletes put in exceptional performances with Murphy outstanding in winning the minor boys shot putt and high jump. Finn O’Brien was unstoppable as she powered her way to an impressive win in the junior girls 800m final.
On the back of a hugely successful meet the overall girls and boys schools titles went to Larkin Community College who once again retained the Hannigan Cup and Robinson Cup.
Kylemore College dominated in the minor boys’ track Aaron Byrne was a worthy winner of the 400m and 1500m titles ahead of Larkin’s Kamil Gorka 400m and Denis Robu 1500m.
Kylemore’s Cezar Valentin ran the perfect race in the 100m final to cross the line ahead of Larkin’s Gorka and David Dykas; Valentin also won the Long Jump. Thomas Murphy led the Larkin charge with his double win alongside Kameron Ledwidge’s success in the cricket ball throw.
Presentation Terenure excelled in the minor girls category. Kathy Murphy won the 100m ahead of her colleague Wuraola Busari, who won the High Jump and Kylemore’s Monsurat Kadiri. Grace McAvine won gold in the 800m final; Kelese Hennessy took silver for Marino College with Kylemore’s Katie Kelly winning bronze.
Laura Young of Margaret Aylward Community College was faultless in capturing the shot putt and cricket ball throw titles, Marino College’s Diksha Ramsurn had to settle for second place in both events.
Larkin’s Mubarag Bankole, Dylan Dolan and Ionel Oul topped the podium in the junior boys 100m, 400m and the long jump respectively while Marino’s Sylvac Kiwitt led from start to finish to claim gold in the 1500m decider. The junior boys field gold medals went to Ringsend College’s Daniel McCluskey shot putt and Edvinas Rupeike javelin of Marino College.
The junior girls’ competition saw Kylemore College’s Viktoria Nkanu win the 100m and long jump, Kate Moss shot putt, Britney Cramp javelin along with Chloe Finn O’Brien’s success in the 800m final.
Runner’s up spots went to Larkin’s Daria Lawlor 100m and Pres’ students Anastasia Cepoi 800m, long jump, Caitlean McKean high jump, Henriette Okotako shot putt and Marianna Pirtac javelin.
Top honours was spread out in the boys intermediate group as Kylemore’s Jack McDonnell finished first ahead of Liam Vickers of Colaiste Dhulaigh and Larkin’s Keith Gifford in the 100m final.
St Kevin’s Eugene Edokpayl got the better of Larkin’s Timir Vorbjov and Kevin’s Kyle Dunphy in the 400m decider. Larkin’s Austin Lynch won the 1500m ahead of fellow Larkin student Cian Dunne, St Kevin’s Stephan Harmon finished third.
Field winners were Colaiste Eoin’s Harry Pike long jump, Colaiste Dhulaigh’s Paul Duffy high jump; St Kevin’s Razuan Molcalot shot putt and Kylemore’s Calem Dunne javelin.
It was double delight for Larkin’s Tiffany Heary and Colaiste Dhulaigh’s Shannon Burke in the intermediate girls’ finals. Heary captured the 1500m and high jump, her colleague Laura Bradley won the shot putt, while Burke won gold in the long jump and the javelin. Other top honours went to Ringsend’s Niamh Barnes 100m and Kylemore’s Shannon Burke 400m.
In the relay finals Larkin’s boys’ won the treble powering to victories in the minor, junior and intermediate races, Kylemore won the male millennium race. Pres’ walked away with the girls’ minor, junior and the millennium relay titles, Larkin won the intermediate final.
