Senior Boys and Girls Golfing Outing 2011
by Tony Reilly
The Grange Golf Course in Rathfarnham was the venue for the Senior Boys and Girls Golf outing 2011. I have to commend the course managers and green staff, the course is impeccable and even at this stage in the year the greens were fast.
The recession must be affecting the golfing community as some of our usual attendees didn’t make the event this year. Ten teams of three teed off with a strong representation from Inchicore College of Further Ed. Crumlin Collegeand Ballsbridge College. Many thanks to all the organisers who helped make this a success by sending out a team.
The competition of the day was a three ball scramble, a friendly game that allows every ability to contribute with less pressure than the standard game. The scramble traditionally sees low scores, and this year was no exception with the majority of scores in the early to mid 60’s.
For the second year in a row, Crumlin College finished second, under the guidance of Mark Leonard who himself was a member of the winning team for the teachers outing last June. Although not playing in the competition himself, Marks ability playing off 20 was duly noted for next June.
1st Inchicore College Peter Buckeridge, David Slattery and Fiachra Lynch
2nd Crumlin College Simon Owens, Ian Mulrooney, Will Donaghue
3rd Inchicore College Ciaran Carr, Luke Mc Carthy, Jimmy Mc Hugh
Special Prizes went to Ballsbridge College First and second teams.
Special thanks to Mark Leonard and Colm O Driscoll for their advice and help on committee and with the cards.
Next years date is set for Friday the 19th of October, and after a meeting with the Sub committee we will run the same format next year again, we have asked for an extended tee time. Keep up the good work promoting the game and I will be in contact early in September.
Yours in Golf
