LARKIN IN DREAMLAND AFTER DOUBLE SUCCESS
LARKIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE claimed another remarkable cup double in winning the Bohemian Shield and the Shelbourne Cup at last week’s soccer finals held at the CDETB SCC Sports Grounds in Terenure.
Larkin has won the Bohemian Shield for the last six years, while also retaining the Shelbourne Cup for the second year in a row, a remarkable feat according to the brains behind it all, manager Nigel Delaney
“It’s wonderful to have won the Bohemian Shield for the sixth year in a row as well as retaining the Shelbourne Cup. It’s great for sixth year students such as Jake (Hyland),Austin (Lynch) and Jordan (Lee O’Connor) it’s also a credit to the school itself” said the delighted Delaney.
The Bohemian Shield was secured thanks to a first half brace from Mubbi Bankole with Conor Piggott adding a third in the second half in their 3-1 win over Colaiste Dhulaigh.
Johnny Avene and Fadel Traore’s perfect passes set up Bankole, Darren Byrne slotted home to give Dhulaigh a glimmer of hope before Piggott’s late strike sealed Larkin’s win.
They faced Youthreach Northside in the Shelbourne Cup final. In a tight affair, the North Inner City School lifted the silverware through second half goals from Dean Byrne and Austin Lynch.
Byrne’s fine effort broke the deadlock shortly after the restart and with Youthreach chasing the game Lynch cut through Youthreach’s defence before being taken down in the six yard box.
He dusted himself off to calmly slot home the resulting penalty for Larkin to clinch the double.
