Report – Intermediate/Senior Bouldering Finals – Wednesday 5th March 2014

KYLEMORE COLLEGE AND MARINO COLLEGE reached new heights in winning the individual pursuit and the speed climb off in turn taking the overall school team accolades to round off a perfect day for both colleges at last week’s Intermediate and Senior Bouldering finals held at Colaiste Eoin in Finglas.
Kylemore’s Darren O’Driscoll was simply untouchable in the Intermediate individual pursuit and speed climb leaving everyone in his wake to add the Intermediate title to the Junior and Minor honours won over the previous two years.
O’Driscoll scored the maximum 150 points with flawless climbing in the individual event. O’Driscoll’s team mates Sean Redmond and Darrell Byrne finished second and third, a treble on the podium for the students of Kylemore College.
In the speed climb final O’Driscoll’s technique came to the fore once again as he outdid Darrell Byrne to claim the double while Ryan Foley took third spot, another treble win in the bag for Kylemore College. Danielle Doran then excelled to win the double in the girls Intermediate competition for Kylemore College.
Marino’s Courtney Nolan also tasted double success in the Senior event with a faultless display from Nolan and her colleague Katrina Kornilova to finish joint first with Kylemore’s Mariesa McCarthy and Robyn Doran tied for second place in the individual contest.
Nolan faced her colleague Kornilova in the speed climb finale with both students going for the double. Nolan led from the start to claim her second title of the day despite the best efforts from Kornilova.
